From the German collector series “Die Euro-Proben Europas” (The Euro Patterns of Europe): a complete pattern set for Montserrat, the Caribbean island in the Lesser Antilles and a British Overseas Territory.
The sealed card holds 8 pattern coins dated 2007, covering the full euro denomination range from 1 cent to 2 euro. Every coin is inscribed ESSAI · PATTERN · PROBE. The national sides show island motifs — the coat of arms (Erin with cross and harp), a sailing ship, marine life and island flora; the value sides carry the denominations, including the Union Flag on the 50 cent piece.
The set comes with its original guarantee card from BTN — Deutsche Ausgabestelle, certifying the authenticity of the issue and telling the island's story in German: discovered by Columbus on 3 November 1493 and named Santa Maria de Montserrat, settled by the English in 1632, struck by Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and by the Soufrière Hills eruptions from 1995 that forced the abandonment of the capital, Plymouth, in 1997.
Please note: Montserrat uses the East Caribbean dollar — these are private pattern (essai) strikes produced for collectors, never legal tender. A curious crossover piece for euro-pattern and Caribbean collectors alike.
You will receive the exact set shown in the photos, sealed in its card with the certificate. Only one available.
