Before Slovenia adopted the euro in 2007, this prototype euro coin collection was issued in 2004 by the International Numismatic Agency (INA) as a limited edition of 27,500 sets. The folder presents the proposed Slovenian euro designs — pattern (probe / essai) strikes that were never legal tender, created to preview how Slovenian euro coins could look.
The set contains 9 pattern coins, from 1 cent to the large 5 euro piece:
- 5 Euro — portrait of Janez Vajkard Valvasor (1641–1693); reverse: Zlatorog, the mythical chamois of Mount Triglav
- 2 Euro — Zlatorog, the golden-horned chamois
- 1 Euro — brown bear of Triglav National Park
- 50, 20 and 10 Cents — the Carniolan grey bee (Apis mellifera carnica)
- 5, 2 and 1 Cents (copper) — Lipizzaner horse with rider
The coins are sealed in the original presentation folder (Bohinj cover), which includes illustrated descriptions in Slovenian and English, with sizes and alloys for every denomination.
Please note: these are collectible pattern (probe/essai) strikes, not legal tender and not an official Bank of Slovenia issue — that is exactly what makes the set interesting to euro-pattern collectors.
You will receive the exact set shown in the photos. Only one available.
